Posted on June 11th, 2010

Barbados collected for its ranking restaurant, entry to 1520 Zagat reviewers to judge. The following are tops in Barbados, according to Zagat. Are much more better? Here's what a serious foodie … to try a restaurant tab … Who has a say in these places often eaten.

Champers: visitors and locals love Champers Wine Bar & Restaurant, which is why they call Zagat's "most popular" dining experience in Barbados. ThisOthers You know how the child's most popular school forgotten forever? Well, I have friends who were not in Barbados six years their plane out of England and say, 'Let's go Champers tonight. " Consistently excellent seafood and service to the seashore, on the southern coast. Christ Church, Rockley

The Tides: fabulous seafood in a beautiful blue decoration, to complement the beautiful seaside location. Great service "excellent strategy"Zagat says this West Coast chef-owned restaurant. I had never been here, the sea is always fabulous. It 'also rather formal (for God's sake, no flip-flops). Make sure that the wonderful art gallery there as well. St. James, Holetown

The Cliff: Known for her torch-romantic cliff-side position and "Special Food" won the cliff top Zagat rating for decoration and noted that his service is part of their inventive eclectic fare. Yes, the rockis excellent. Zagat What is not said that this is one of the more expensive restaurants on the island, and if prices are determined Champers instead. St. James, Derricks go

Zen: go early and a sunset stroll on the winner of pink sand beach award the Crane Resort Barbados where Zen is in the southeast. Unfortunately, this is everything you see on the sea, because it is not visible from most tables at the restaurant. This is what keeps meReturn to eat more often in this otherwise excellent restaurant. Zen has received Zagat's highest rating for food in Barbados, through the "kitchen" simply brilliant Thai-Japanese, including sushi surprising. St Philip, Crane Beach Hotel

Fish: sea and revered for his "unique menu, with the best local fish," and offered "what can be as Barbados at reasonable prices." I agree that fish is remarkable for another reason: It has an appealing casualness; It 'a short walk from many apartments and houses on the south coast, and because it is in the heart of the bustling St. Lawrence Gap, you can choose from a number of other wonderful restaurants nearby to choose as well. My only complaint is that I have experienced very slow service Pisces. But then we in the Caribbean … Christchurch

These five restaurants and more in part 2 of my look at Zagat's Restaurant Barbados votes. With decisions like these, visit a foodiethe island will go home happy enough … to try a restaurant tab.

Grand Prix (1966 Film) / Ryan’s Daughter (1970 Film)

Posted on June 8th, 2010

Grand Prix (1966 Film) / Ryan’s Daughter (1970 Film) Review

I BELEIVE WHEN THE GRAND PRIX FIRST CAME ONTO THE BIG SCREEN I WAS ONLY 10 YEARS OLD, I AM NOW 47. I SAW IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HOLLYWOOD CALIFORNIA AT THE FAMOUS CINERAMA THEATRE, IT WAS THE FIRST OVAL SCREEN OF ITS TIME. BEING AN IMPRESSIONABLE YOUNG MAN I WAS CAPTIVATED AS I’M SURE EVERYONE ELSE WAS IN THE MOVIE HOUSE. THE RACING SCENES TOOK YOUR BREATH AWAY AND MADE YOU FEEL AS YOU WERE THE DRIVER OF THE FORMULA ONE RACING CARS. ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS MY STOMACH EVEN TURNED ON THE CURVES AND BUMPS IN THE ROAD, THE CAMERA PUT YOU RIGHT IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. I HAVEN’T SEEN THIS MOVIE SINCE MY EARLY TEENS AND HAVE SOUGHT OUT ON MANY OCCASIONS TO TRY AND FIND IT FOR MY VIDEO LIBRARY. IF ANYONE OUT THEIR EVER HAS THE CHANCE TO WATCH THIS MOVIE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, YOU’LL LOVE THE SOUNDTRACK.

Grand Prix (1966 Film) / Ryan’s Daughter (1970 Film) Overview

Thanks largely to his work with director David Lean, composer Maurice Jarre’s career was at a peak during the mid-1960s. This collection presents ample evidence that his creative talents ably rose to the occasion as well. If John Frankenheimer’s Cinerama Formula One racing epic Grand Prix was a sometimes schizophrenic mix of romantic trysts and innovative cinematic racing excitement, Jarre managed to produce the thematic musical glue that holds it all together, from a boisterous, action-evoking main theme to several romantic motifs, rendered in styles from Baroque to bossa nova, strident marching band to orchestral fury. His music for David Lean’s underappreciated Ryan’s Daughter stands in stark contrast. Atmospherically evocative and sometimes possessed of an almost Morricone-esque playfulness, it’s a surprising departure from the melodic populism of such earlier Lean collaborations as Lawrence of Arabia and Dr. Zhivago. This “twofer” release may take a few packaging shortcuts, but it’s a welcome addition for any Jarre admirer. –Jerry McCulley

Before the Rainbow : The Original Music of Oz

Posted on June 7th, 2010

Before the Rainbow : The Original Music of Oz Review

The Hungry Tiger CD _Before the Rainbow_ is excellent and I recommend it highly. I might (or might not) have preferred “period instruments” to the synthesizer, but then it would have cost too much to produce and we’d be without anything. My roommate/landlady said the final grand march from Patchwork Girl sounded like “roller skating music.” But that was intended as a compliment. No Oz fan can live without this recording.

Before the Rainbow : The Original Music of Oz Overview

Rebuilding the Lost Oz Before Judy Garland sang Over the Rainbow, Oz had inspired over 200 songs. This CD provides an overview of the rich early musical legacy of Oz. Most of the original music of Oz is associated with Baums stage works: The Wizard of Oz (1902), The Woggle-Bug (1905), and The Tik-Tok Man of Oz (1913). In the absence of published vocal scores, music was gathered in the form of published songs, piano or orchestral medley arrangements, and manuscripts. For the Wizard suite, I drew upon Tietjens own manuscript indications and a 1902 orchestral selection by Hilding Anderson, who would later orchestrate for Gershwin shows. The Tik-Tok Man selection is a 1913 orchestral arrangement by J. Bodewalt Lampe, who, like Gottschalk, was a pioneering film composer. From these scores, it was a matter of laying down the parts track by track; fortunately, advances in digital sampling synthesis have allowed me to record this music within a reasonable budget without sounding like Switched-on-Baum. The scores and parts are available for performance. The Cowardly Lions share of this collaboration was done before David and I met, through hours of on-line conversation. The audience for The Wizard of Oz in 1902 largely arrived in horse drawn carriages to see the first stage show in history with electrically controlled lighting. For this project to have been coordinated through the internet and realized digitally is a wonder worthy of Baums imagination.

Catering Ideas

Posted on June 4th, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Not all catering services are able to offer formal dining with themed presentation and varied cuisine for corporate and private events. Even so there are caterers who can meet the demand of ‘out of the box’ ideas and tailor a banquet or buffet to meet specific requirements. Making decisions with regards to theme, cuisine and presentation is a personal preference; not everyone has the same ideas as to what is crucial. This is why catering services that can provide the experts who will listen and interpret those ideas in a professional and organised manner can be invaluable to those looking for something ‘a little different’: Something ‘out of the box’.

Of course the menu is always vitally important for any event: Catering services with Chefs are able to produce various types of cuisine from different regions around the world would certainly be more capable of meeting more diverse requests and palates. Anglo – French caterers for instance that can also provide an exotic array of Asian cuisine, or visa versa. Even with regards to religious obligations or presentation: Adaptable caterers that can effectively ‘multi-task’ being hugely advantageous for anyone wanting to create a distinct theme for their event.

Theme events offering great cuisine and a touch of splendour are guaranteed to impress. French cuisine has long been considered to be among the best – French caterers being renowned for their meticulous skills in preparation and presentation: But above all, their invention. Thus French caterers are among the most sought after. The most exquisite canapes, fish and meat dishes and above all desserts have been dreamed up in the kitchens of the finest French chefs. French caterers are true masters in the realm of sweet delights – producing the creme de la creme of hand crafted deserts. Highly skilled regardless of theme French caterers are rarely unable to meet demand with regards to presentation.

Impressing your guests can be as straightforward as creating refined elegance and providing quality cuisine. Even so individuality is a free choice. There are excellent catering services available that can allow you to be creative with your ideas and personalise your event – to think outside the box and make those ideas a reality. Living in Las Vegas

Posted on June 2nd, 2010

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Las Vegas is one of the sunniest cities in the United States — with an average 320 days of sunshine per year and only 4.19 inches of rainfall. The winters in Las Vegas are like no other. Many of us do not pack away our shorts because we can wear them year round.

Las Vegas has been the fastest growing city for over a decade now. It all started in 1993 with the opening of three mega-resorts: MGM Grand, Treasure Island, and Luxor. For ten years, an average of 4,000-6,000 new residents moved here each month. In December 2003, ten years later, over 8,000 new driver’s licenses were issued.

Just as the people that live in Las Vegas are very diverse, so is the choice of where to live. People that are not from Las Vegas seem to believe that we all live on “The Strip.” Nothing is further from reality. The most popular areas to live, such as Green Valley, Southern Highlands, Anthem, and Summerlin are suburbs nowhere near The Strip. Southwest and Northwest Las Vegas are growing at astronomical rates and, literally, housing cannot be built fast enough to handle our growth.

Housing

Approximately 34% of the households in Las Vegas are rentals. You will find an abundance of rental options throughout Las Vegas, ranging from apartments and condominiums to exclusive corporate housing to single-family homes. The average apartment rent (for all apartments) is $738 with a vacancy rate of less than 5%. Apartments offer some of the best lifestyles to Nevada residents. Apartments in Nevada are different than most states. They are new, larger than most and offer all of the amenities that newer housing communities offer. Many of the newer communities offer 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, with or without garages.

Las Vegas real estate is still reasonable. It has increased substantially over the past year, but continues to offer some of the most affordable housing in the country. Our diversity in housing choices allow you to choose from town houses to condominiums, gated living to planned communities, high rises to manufactured homes. The quality of life in Las Vegas is generally better than in most areas. Las Vegas offers top-notch exercise facilities, excellent restaurants, the advantages of any other city, plus much more. The average homeowner is 22 years old, so there is plenty of opportunity to advance in your career.

Wages

Nevada ranks in the upper 25 percentile of wages offered throughout the United States. This coupled with our low cost of living makes Nevada very attractable to all professionals. Some media outlets have talked about the lower level of education in Las Vegas, but our average median income continues to topple most major markets.

Working in Las Vegas

Casinos are no longer just gaming; they are entertainment, dining, retail and hospitality. It also is home to many financial institutions such as Citibank, Household Credit Services and First Bank of Marin. Technology companies have recently discovered the benefits of relocating to Nevada, as the infrastructure is new, reliable, and expandable so our technology sector has experienced substantial growth. Healthcare, education, and professional services have maintained a rapid level of growth just to keep up with the booming population.

Churches

Las Vegas has nearly 600 churches, temples, and synagogues representing more than 63 faiths.

Transportation

Public Transportation has also become a priority. A monorail system launched operations in July 2004.

Parks and Recreation

As communities are being developed, so are community parks that offer soccer fields, baseball diamonds, swimming pools, skateboard parks, manmade lakes, volleyball courts, and a variety of other types of recreation.
